Re: "Postal Pete"
I have sent the Secondary Sheaves to my friend for sandblasting...hopefully we can repair those faces with a professional grade metal epoxy. I hope this works !
In the meantime clean up and repainting continues underneath the Kalmar...
The Left rear section has been bolted in again with all new brake lines in place. There is very little remaining on this section.

Re: "Postal Pete"
I just received an e-mail from my friend in Waalre...
The Kalmar windshield (along with two DAF type 30 windshields) have been crated and ready to ship to America.
Very soon my Kalmar will have a new front windshield (as long as Fed-Ex handles the load carefully )

Re: "Postal Pete"
Nice that the windsheald is on its way.
Is there any "danger" to drive with rusty secondary sheaves? What could happend? I have never looked at any if mine (3) Kalmars, i suppose that they all where rusty when i started to drive them after they stod still more than 30 years or so.

Re: "Postal Pete"
Fredrik,
There is no danger to drive with bad Variomatic pulleys...it only causes damage to the belts.
Any sharp edges or flaws on the pulley faces tend to wear the drive belts very fast.
As expensive as the Roulunds belts are it is best not to wear them out.

Re: "Postal Pete"
Yesterday the Primary was taken out for a good cleaning and service.
It appears that my friends up North (Canadian Post) had never once made any adjustments to the Variomatic since the bolts were rusted solid. Two broke off when I attempted to loosen them.
At least now I can also complete the cleaning / re-painting of the chassis with everything out of the way.

Re: "Postal Pete"
The Chassis work is finally completed. The Chassis has been inspected, cleaned and re-painted, no holes or major rust damage was found anywhere.
This is one big step toward the final goal.
Yesterday I started to run all new Vacuum, Gasoline and Brake lines...
Everything in the rear is now ready to replace the Variomatic, which will be serviced and re-painted while it is out.

Re: "Postal Pete"
Today the Secondary Sheaves came back and they look good again.
My friend, who owns the body shop, sandblasted the faces and applied a professional grade liquid metal epoxy.
The sheave faces are now very smooth so they will not wear out the new belts.
One more day to paint everything and they can be installed under "Postal Pete"

Re: "Postal Pete"
Work on the Variomatic is now completed. The Secondaries have been put back together and the adjusted belts are in place.
Next project will be to get the motor put back together, but first I must re-line the Clutch shoes.

Re: "Postal Pete"
The Clutch Shoes were sent out yesterday for re-lining. I have a supplier locally who does this inexpensive and has done others for me.
In the meantime the 850cc motor has been 95% finished. This is a 12 volt version with an alternator (built in Voltage Regulator) so I must do some re-wireing to make it work properly.
