Yes Fredrik, The Kalmar will be painted Canadian Postal Red and I already have a copy of the original 1970 Canada Post logos as well as an original 1969 Ontario License plate.

Now that the cleanup of my workshop is almost done I might be able to spend more time working on the Van
(I have spent the last two weeks cleaning mud left over from Hurricane Irene, which hit Vermont and my house as well as my workshop very hard in August 2011)

My DAF workshop is to the right of my white truck which was covered by over a meter of water for almost 5 days.
Bild
After the water went down I was left with almost 25cm of mud everywhere, inside and outside.

There was enough damage to make me mad and have to spend lots of money as well as time cleaning up. After nine months of cleaning I can now use my workshop (Blue Building)again.

Now for some better news. An update for "Postal Pete".....
A lot has happened since my last posting.
Bild
I had a spare 12 volt 850cc motor in my warehouse so I will be rebuilding it for the Kalmar. It will be good because it came from a 1974 DAF 44 with only a few hundred Kms (the owner changed his 44 to Electric).
Bild

With the motor work underway it was time to start on the brakes. Everything was taken apart and repainted.
Bild
All new parts were installed and the drums were turned on my machine.

I anticipate driving a lot so I used Goodrich Steel braided flexible lines in place of regular rubbers ones.
Bild
These should last a very long time.

Also all new brake lines are being installed and I started to complete the front ones. The distribution block was moved forward a little to make things easier for me to run the new lines.
Bild
I also went with a new Master Cylinder.

This afternoon I began to work on the frame (I did not want to remove the body, it would have taken too long to finish).
Bild
The frame was actually in very good condition with only surface rust and some peeling paint.
I will have to replace the rubber body mounts as they are all dried out and cracked.

Thank you Johan
Yes all the cars in the Museum survived the flooding with very minor damage.

Just a fast update on PETE...

I completed the rear brakes and more work on the frame (still needs more). I moved the Kalmar outside to the workshop to begin work on the door support rails which needed new fastening studs.
Bild
Also to weld the front spring housing / motor mount assembly...
Bild
This was the only really bad section on the framework.

I had to work very carefully and slowly to make sure each new stud would line up on the rail and fit properly in each mounting hole.

Bild
I guess my careful planning paid off. :) The door mounted perfectly and rolled very smoothly in the track. I had to remove the glass in the door because it had been broken before the Kalmar arrived here. Glass will be no problem finding here...

My BIG problem now is to replace the rubber on both door windows. The heat and weather have shrunken the rubber so that it no longer seals. There is a 3 inch gap at the seam.
Does anyone know if new rubber is available ??

Found one! But im not sure ist long enough to go all the way around the window. I noticed on at least one of my Kalmar that i have the same problem, i think that the best way to use the rubber i found is to split it in smaller pieces and fill in the gaps on the existing ones. This rubber (around the door-windows) seems to been done in better quality than the windows in the rear.

:D :D :D :D
Perfect solution Fredrik. Adding in some small pieces will be the way to go, I think.
If it can be arranged I would only need 300cm to restore both doors.

You must mean 300mm (30cm) or 30mm (3cm)?
